upgrade to atleast windows 7,8 or 10 it happen to me 2 years ago.

You don't need to upgrade to windows 7, 8 or 10. I have personally run the game fine with Windows XP machines (as well as Windows 98 and 2000 in virtual machines), and others have run it on Vista without issues.
Have you tried both the OpenGL and Direct3D9 builds? (can get them in the launcher from Options --> Updates) Unfortunately I cannot provide any assistance without something like logs, crash dumps, etc.
